As a REALTOR® who lives and works in the North Dallas area, I wanted to share what is great about The Colony, TX.

The Colony is only about 16 square miles and has a population of about 42,000 residence. It is considered a best kept secret in North Texas by the people who live there.

It is strategically located about 30 miles north of Downtown Dallas and has easy access to Highway 121, George Bush Turnpike, Dallas North Tollway and I-35.

With 23 miles of shoreline along the east side of Lake Lewisville, The Colony attracts those who love nature. The city features 28 parks with over 3,000 acres, one of the highest acres of parks per capita in the state. The locals who live there and the visitors alike, have hundreds of acres of wildlife to enjoy. This includes hiking the scenic trails, camping, fishing, swimming, boating, picnicking and cycling.

Homes range in age and style – you can find lake front properties, remodeled older homes on larger lots tucked in sleepy communities, as well as new construction homes built in subdivisions with resort-style amenities.

The Tribute Golf Course The Colony TX

Speaking about outdoor activity, The Colony has some of the best and most prestigious golf courses in Texas- The Tribute, Stewart Peninsula and The Old American. For those who want to play just for fun, you will need to visit the TopGolf entertainment facility where you can hit micro-chipped golf balls at giant dartboard-like targets on an outfield while enjoying family friendly food and drink. So, if you love golf, you will love competing here.

They say “Everything is bigger in Texas” and that is especially true in The Colony. A few of the city’s biggest:

Blue Sky Sports Center is a 43,000 square foot indoor soccer facility. Everyone from kids to adults enjoy this incredible facility from all around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The Colony was named #1 Sportstown for the State of Texas by Sports Illustrated Magazine and the National Parks and Recreation Association.

Love to go out for the night and have some fun? The Colony is home to an amazing and incredible entertainment district:

For live music, go to the Lava Cantina, where families, date night couples, empty nesters and more can enjoy rocking and dancing the whole night long. The Creole food with a Mexican twist, including crawfish and gator dip and enchiladas made with French crepes are delicious too.

If you are looking for fantastic Texas barbeque, you have to visit the awesome Hard Eight BBQ. They feature incredible smoked meats, live bands and an authentic Texas barbeque atmosphere that is enjoyed by everyone in DFW.

Grandscape The Colony TX

Here you will find outdoor entertainment, shopping, world class restaurants, technology driven events and incredible lush landscaping designed to create a truly memorable family-friendly experience every time you visit.

The first thing you feel when you walk into Nebraska Furniture Mart is you entered a whole new world. With over 560,000 square feet of shopping, it is simply America’s largest home furnishing store. Inside you will see a labyrinth of appliances, furniture, electronics, and flooring that has just about everything and anything you could ever think of.

At the end of the season they also have a special event called Bow Wow Luau where you can dive in with your puppy friend and enjoy doggie swims, contests, games, and prizes.

As someone who has lived all over the world and speaks multiple languages, cultural diversity is very important to me – and you will find The Colony is highly diverse and very friendly. You will meet many people from all around the world; this also adds to the wide variety of restaurants, shopping and activities here.

What sums up The Colony? It is a place that you will find family friendly activities, a great place to raise kids and somewhere that something is always going on – particularly outdoor-related.
